Subject: Important: New Companies House ID Verification (What You Need to Know)
Dear [PrimaryContact],
We hope you’re well.
We’re writing to make you aware of a new legal requirement being introduced by Companies House as part of their ongoing efforts to increase corporate transparency and reduce economic crime. Since 18 November 2025, all new and existing company directors and people with significant control (PSCs) need to verify their identity with Companies House, and Companies House will introduce identity verification for people who file on its register at a later date.
This is a major change, and it will affect all UK companies and LLPs.
What does this mean for you?
If you’re a director, PSC, or someone who files with Companies House, you’ll need to complete a one-off ID verification process to continue fulfilling your duties. This will likely involve uploading a form of ID, such as a passport or driving licence, through a secure online portal.
Companies House opened its verification service in April 2025, and verification became a legal requirement on 18 November 2025. New directors must now verify before a company can be incorporated or they can be appointed. Existing directors confirm their verification when the company files its next confirmation statement, and existing PSCs have their own 14-day window, within a 12-month transition period that runs until November 2026.
How we’re helping you prepare
We are closely following updates from Companies House and will guide you through this process. For most of our clients, we will be able to assist or even complete the verification on your behalf where authorised.
