Subject: Important: New Companies House ID Verification – What You Need to Know
Dear [PrimaryContact],
We hope you’re well.
We’re writing to make you aware of a new legal requirement being introduced by Companies House as part of their ongoing efforts to increase corporate transparency and reduce economic crime. Over the coming months, all directors, people with significant control (PSCs), and those filing on behalf of companies will need to verify their identity with Companies House.
This is a major change, and it will affect all UK companies and LLPs.
What does this mean for you?
If you’re a director, PSC, or someone who files with Companies House, you’ll need to complete a one-off ID verification process to continue fulfilling your duties. This will likely involve uploading a form of ID, such as a passport or driving licence, through a secure online portal.
Companies House hasn’t yet opened the verification system, but it’s expected to go live later this year. Once launched, new company appointments won’t be accepted unless the person has completed verification first. Existing directors and PSCs will also have a deadline by which they must comply.
How we’re helping you prepare
We are closely following updates from Companies House and will guide you through this process as soon as it becomes available. For most of our clients, we will be able to assist or even complete the verification on your behalf where authorised.
In the meantime:
-
Please ensure your personal contact details are up to date with us, especially your email address and mobile number.
-
If you anticipate any changes to directors or PSCs in the near future, please let us know so we can plan accordingly.
We’ll be in touch again once the system is live with step-by-step guidance on how to complete your verification or how we can help manage it for you.
If you have any questions in the meantime, just reply to this email or give us a call – we’re here to help.
Warm regards,
