How to set up and use the Xero Integration

Engager.app can communicate with the Xero Accounting API, so you can create, import and modify clients, and raise and manage invoices, from Engager. This article shows where the Xero settings are and how to link a client with Xero.

Open the Xero settings

1. Go to Settings > Integrations and select Xero. The Xero integration page opens.

Bolt-on fee

The Bolt-on fee section on the same page explains: "Xero imposes fees on all third-parties who wish to integrate with Xero API. To keep our prices fair for everyone, we need to charge a small bolt-on fee for using this integration. Thank you for understanding."

Authorisation

The Authorisation section is where Engager connects to your Xero organisation. Once it's connected, the section shows a success message and your Connected organisation details, with options to re-authorise or revoke authorisation.

Choose how individual client names appear

1. Under Details, find Individual or Sole Trader client name.
2. Choose a Format: Last name, Title First and Middle names or Title First and Middle names followed by Last name.
3. Choose whether to add trading name suffix where applicable, then select save.

As the page notes, you need to re-save each linked client for a new name format to apply to them.

Stored Xero data

The Stored Xero data section has a Remove data option for the Xero data held in Engager.

Link a client with Xero

1. In the client's form, go to Step 1: General info.
2. Under External systems, in the Bookkeeping section, select Link with Xero. A client that isn't linked yet shows a not linked badge.

Once a client is linked, an Invoices (Xero) item appears in the client's menu.
