AML in Engager: FAQs

Answers to common questions about AML in Engager.

Does Engager make my firm AML compliant?

No. Engager helps your firm meet its anti-money laundering (AML) obligations and keep a record of what you did, but your firm remains responsible for its own AML decisions. For advice, speak to your supervisory body.

Where do I find AML in Engager?

Select AML in the top menu for the firm-wide area. For a client, open the client and select AML in the left-hand menu. See AML in Engager: an overview.

Can I change the risk assessment questions?

Yes. You can edit the default templates or create your own. Saving your changes creates a new version. See How to set up client risk assessment templates.

Why can't I start a new risk assessment?

A client can only have one risk assessment in progress at a time. Complete or delete the one in progress, then select + new.

How is the risk level worked out?

Each Yes or No answer has a risk level from High to Low. Engager scores the answers in each section, and N/A answers aren't counted. Select Methodology in the assessment to see the full calculation. See How to complete a client risk assessment.

Can I change the calculated risk level?

Yes. You can set a Revised risk after mitigation for each section and a Revised overall risk level (optional) once every section is complete.

Who can review a risk assessment?

Anyone in your firm. There are no extra permissions for reviewing. See How to approve a risk assessment and set the next review date.

Will Engager remind me when a review is due?

Not at the moment. Check the Next review date on the client's AML tab.

What happens if a client is a PEP?

If you answer Yes to the PEP question, or to the question about high-risk jurisdictions, Engager classes that section and the overall risk as High. You should then apply enhanced due diligence (EDD). The Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) Guidance in the firm-wide AML area explains what this involves.

How do I make a draft template active?

Open the template with the pencil button and select Save new version from points above.

Can I delete a template?

Only if it hasn't been used.

What's the difference between an AML ID check and a biometric check?

You run an AML ID check yourself from the client's details and address, and it's checked against Equifax's records. A biometric check is sent to the client, who verifies their own identity using the link they receive. See How to run an AML ID check on an individual and How to send a biometric ID check to a client.

Do ID checks and biometric checks use credits?

Yes. An AML ID check uses 4 credits, and a Biometric Identity Check for Onboarding uses 9 credits. Engager shows the number of credits before you run or send a check.

Which biometric check should I use for Companies House identity verification?

Use Biometric Identity Check for Companies House (NFC/App only) if the client has an NFC passport or UK driving licence. Otherwise, use Biometric Identity Check for Companies House (non-NFC documents).

Do I need to turn on Companies House filings monitoring?

No. It shows as active once the company is synced with Companies House through Engager's Companies House integration. See How to view a company's ownership chart and Companies House information.

Where does the ownership chart come from?

Companies House. The chart shows when it was last updated. See How to view a company's ownership chart and Companies House information.
